“Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that, in all things and at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV)
Offering the ‘first fruits’ to God (Genesis 4:3-5).
A natural response of love (2 Corinthians 8:7-9).
Commitment to God and generous giving are closely related (Exodus 35:5-21).
Giving from love, ability and generosity, not from a guilty conscience (Ezra 2:68-69).
When you participate in giving, you decide in advance to faithfully give. God always blesses that kind of faith! Giving a little is better than nothing at all (John 6:8-9). If we offer nothing to God, he will have nothing to use. But He can take what little we have and turn it into something great.
Jesus took five loaves and two fish and multiplied them to feed over five thousand! If we support our church financially, we enable great work to be accomplished by ministers here – and volunteers – to reach into our community with the Good News (Matthew 14:19-21). God gives in abundance. He will take whatever we give him and multiply it beyond our wildest expectations.
Our church receives nothing at all from the government, The Church of England etc. to finance our running costs. Everything we have comes from Christians giving generously or the rental of our premises – in fact, 85% of our income comes in from either Giving or Offerings during Services!
If you wish to join our Giving scheme and make a regular offering via bank standing order, please speak to Andy Anderson, Hon. Treasurer. If you are a tax payer, we are able to recover tax paid so a Gift Aid form will be required.
If giving a regular sum is difficult, you are able to make ‘one off’, ad hoc payments. In this instance, please ensure that any payments go into the church’s bank account (sort code 16-19-15, account 11129680).
During all our services and other special events there is an offering taken usually in one of the hymns. This gives an opportunity for those who wish to give in this way. No-one should feel embarrassed by passing the bag on as people at All Saints give in different ways and we no-one is under any obligation to give when they attend services.
Some who give through standing order find it helpful to collect a plastic token from the back of church at the beginning of the service and drop it in the bag when it is passed round as a sign of their giving before God.
However you participate this corporate act is a reminder to us all of the generosity of God and the part in which our financial giving plays in our worship.
