LENT course 2016: Heaven’s Outpost
It has been exciting to be reminded from Ephesians, in our evening services, of God’s glorious purposes for all the universe and how the church plays a key role in pointing both the heavenly and earthly realms to God’s New Creation in Christ. The problem is, as the Apostle Paul knew well, that we need to keep being reminded so that our life together reflects who we really are.
This year’s lent course gives us an opportunity to search our hearts as a church to see where our attitude and behaviour has fallen short of his glorious purpose for us; and allow God to move us towards repentance.
Of course, the reason God calls us to repentance is in order to breath new life into us, and we will be looking at a very short book by John Owen as a means of allowing God to renew us at the heart of our life together as a church.
Each evening will contain some teaching, a time of worship and opportunity for prayer and fellowship.
The first (Ash) Wednesday of Lent will be a service of Holy Communion and then the course will run on the next five Wednesdays finishing just before Holy week.
